When you look at my Instagram accounts now, you may think I’ve been ‘lucky’, or it’s been ‘so easy’ for me. I currently have about 90k followers on my @sitwithkelly page, and 40k followers on my @businessoftherapy page.

Like...no wonder I can charge $275 per session, and have super successful launches with such a big following, right?!

But…it hasn’t always been like that.

I started with ZERO followers. I’ve grown both Instagram accounts from 0 to 10k in under a year. It took a LOT of trial and error as I was growing my first page, and I for sure made my fair share of mistakes. All of my hard work and consistency helped me have an ‘easier’ experience with my second page.

I’ve learned sooo much along the way, but I’ve also been an Instagram therapist for 4 years now! If you’re a brand new therapist on Instagram (or even if you aren’t), I don’t want you to compare your journey to mine.

I want to share with you 9 key things that I would focus on, if I was starting over as a new Instagram therapist. Some of these items will take you more time than others (especially in the beginning). But...as you learn, you’ll get better and faster over time.

If you’re in this for the long haul AND you’re ready to build a thriving business, all of this will be worth it!

In today’s episode, I’m talking about the exact things I’d focus on if I was starting over on Instagram. First of all, you’ve GOT to be committed to doing this. Everyone wants instant results and to make 6 figures overnight, but...that’s not how it works!

If you want exceptional results and a booming 6-figure practice, you’ve got to be ALL IN. I recommend committing to your goals and going after them for at least a year. If you need to invest in support or get some accountability in that time, find a way to make it happen!

Niching down is another important piece you need to focus on. In the beginning, you should niche down even more than you think you should!

Specificity is KEY in all aspects of your marketing. When you’re speaking to everyone in your content, you’re actually speaking to no one.

You don’t have to stick with the same niche forever. But...when you’re first starting out, make sure you’re crystal clear on who you want to reach and connect with!

When you’re starting from scratch on Instagram, you need to be posting in your feed every day for at least 90 days. This is NOT something you need to do forever, but in the beginning, reaching more people is super important!

You want to gain followers and build genuine connections. You want to show that you’re the authority in your space. In order to do all of this, the Instagram algorithm needs to understand WHO your content is for. Showing up consistently with various types of content will help you do all of that!

Embracing a beginner’s mindset when you’re starting on Instagram is necessary. Not everyone has a background in marketing, or feels confident in learning marketing on their own. If this is something you need help with, make sure you invest in support where you need to!

I’ve got 5 more things you should focus on when it comes to Instagram…but you’ll have to tune into the episode to learn what those are!

Building a business is hard work, regardless of what you see from others online. As you continue learning and adjusting, it will get easier though.

I would love to hear what your big goals are for Instagram, and where you want to be in 2025. I know you CAN find the time to commit to these 9 things, and build a business that will change your freaking life!!

In this episode, The Exact Things I’d Focus on if I Was Starting Over on Instagram, I cover:

  • What it was like growing my first Instagram page vs. my second

  • Nine things I would focus on as a new Instagram therapist
