Today’s episode is covering a taboo topic, but it’s also one of my favorites, and the most popular thing I talk about. Yep...I’m talking about MONEY!
I don’t know about you, but I was taught to not talk about money growing up. I especially wasn’t supposed to want to make a ton of money, because that’s not what “good people” want, right?
I’ve had to unlearn a lot of the things I learned about money growing up. Now I know, It’s actually super important to have regular conversations about money. Talking to other therapists and women entrepreneurs helped open my eyes to new possibilities I never dreamed of, and it helped me really figure out what I wanted for my life.
I know this is an incredibly vulnerable topic, but I’m excited to share my complete money story in depth here, and show you what my income has looked like at different points in my career over the last several years. I hope this shows YOU what’s possible and inspires you to dream bigger.
I believe in leading with transparency and authenticity always; I’m the girl who’s going to cheer you on, and give you permission to go after your big, BIG goals, unapologetically!
In today’s episode, I’m giving you a BTS look at how I went from making $45/session, to $1 million/year as a therapist. My journey started in 2014. After graduating with my MSW and my MBA, I moved to New York. At my first job, I was making just $38,000 per year, but after multiple promotions, I secured a cushy, 6-figure salary as a managing director in the nonprofit sector.
In 2020, I had the opportunity to step back into therapy, and eventually, I found the courage to start my own private practice. It felt extremely scary to go all in with my own business (insert major imposter syndrome) and fully step away from my ‘safe’ career, but it was undoubtedly the best decision for myself, and my future.
I’ve learned that trying something new doesn’t mean it’s going to feel difficult or uncomfortable forever, and it also doesn’t have to consume your whole life! I dove headfirst into learning marketing and really putting myself out there - I bet on myself, and it’s paid off exponentially.
My best advice for you is to take some time, and reflect on what you want your private practice and work/life balance to look like - it doesn’t have to look like what every other therapist out there is doing. You absolutely CAN have a sustainable business that you love (and also makes you a sh*t ton of money), regardless of what anyone else tells you. I believe in you, and what you have to offer; I hope this episode encourages you to take action, and bet on yourself!
