Ever worried that your Instagram content doesn’t sound professional, insightful, or “expert” enough??

Imposter syndrome is a tricky thing. It can convince us that we need to prove how much we know.

But the harder you try to sound like an expert, the harder it becomes to really connect with the people you’re trying to reach.

Your ideal clients aren’t scrolling Instagram evaluating your theoretical orientation or clinical terminology. They aren’t worried about your years of experience.

They’re asking themselves ONE simple question: Does this person understand what I’m going through?

Your ability to put their real-life thoughts, emotions, and experiences into words is what demonstrates your expertise. THAT is what makes someone feel safe enough to reach out!

In today’s episode, I’m talking about why therapists who get clients aren’t the ones who sound the smartest.

Yes, there’s content that “sounds” impressive, and content that actually connects. Instead of leading with psychoeducation or clinical jargon, talk about the everyday moments your clients bring into sessions.

Get super specific here, and speak in their language. Help them recognize themselves in your content and think, “Oh my gosh, that’s me!”

The next time you’re about to hit post, don’t ask yourself, “How can I sound more like an expert?” Instead, ask, “How can I make someone feel less alone today?”

When your content makes your ideal client feel seen and understood, you build trust.

That trust (not sounding like the smartest therapist on Instagram) is what helps grow your following, attract private-pay clients, AND fill your caseload!

If you need support turning these ideas into content that actually connects, Reels Membership can help. Every week, you’ll get done-for-you Reels ideas designed specifically for therapists.

You’ll spend less time wondering what to post and more time creating content that helps your ideal clients feel seen, understood, AND ready to work with you!

In this episode, The Therapists Who Get Clients Aren’t the Ones Who Sound the Smartest, I cover:

  • How imposter syndrome can hurt your Instagram content
  • Why you’re not marketing to other therapists
  • Connecting with clients instead of trying to sound impressive
